Farmer/Pilot Sees Huge Energy Ball Shoot Up From Field Into Sky

I was walking my dogs on a grass field near the river. It was dark and 
the owls were making no end of noise. I saw a light being shone into trees 
on a public footpath on one side of field.

I thought it was poachers, so when the light was directed onto the field 
I was on, I shone my very powerful torch at source of light.

Looked like someone in a high viz jacket. Light was then shone in my 
direction but I was behind a large tree so not seen. 

I saw no more of this light. 

Sounds of a possible animal other side of river.

5 mins later, as I started to walk back to my truck the whole field lit up like 
day. 

I turned round to see ball of energy the size of a full moon shoot up into 
sky from 500? yards away.

There was no sound as the ball disappeared into low cloud, where it was 
still visible.

I am a farmer and pilot so pretty sure of what I saw.
