Unidentified Craft "Like Two Objects Stuck on Top of Each Other"

I was sitting in the garden at about 7-7.45pm and the sky was crystal clear 
with no clouds. I was watching planes on their way to Gatwick, when I 
noticed an object which was very high up in the sky and appeared to be 
stationary.  

I judged its position in relation to the tree branches and it seemed to 
remain in the same place for about 7-8 minutes before lowering itself a bit. 

The object emitted very bright white light, but there were no flashing lights, 
suggesting that it could have been a very high flying aeroplane; but I have 
never seen a stationary plane in the sky before!

The object started moving very slowly East before disappearing. 

At some point I had an impression that the were two objects stuck on the 
top of each other. 

I wonder if anyone in this area has also seen the same thing and what 
impression it made on them.
