I'm an amateur astronomer, visual magnitude of the 2 objects were
-6 and -4.5 approx. To the SSW of Torquay, about 30 degrees above
the horizon, half hour after sunset.

Arcturus was visible, I was looking towards that star. 2 objects, brighter
than any planet were south east of the star. Not moving.

My thought were 2 planets. But Jupiter was not due until after 11.

Venus had set to the north east at 8 or so.

I went for a pair of 20x80 bins. Clouds spread from the south and I
couldn't get a good look.

They were there for a few minutes. Disappeared quickly.

They weren't stars, way too bright. And in the wrong place for planets.

Brighter one above the fainter one.

North east of it. Relatively low on the horizon. Near Bootes the constellation.

Not far from Arcturus. I was looking for double stars in Bootes at the time.
