Close-up of ring
Mystery Roman Onyx Ring (Circa 2nd or 3rd Century)
This item is genuine and was bought as a roman ring by a well known ancient art dealers in London.
They featured this in the Antiques Trade Gazette as 'a mother and child depiction'.
Is it just our imagination, or is there more going on here?
The ring is broken and initially was sold to a dealer for just a couple of hundred pounds... now it is currently for sale at £22,888.00! on a specialist auction site... so obviously, it is now considered more of a rarity - even it's extremely poor condition.
The skillfully engraved scene looks a tad 'celestial' to our eyes, but let the pictures talk for themselves.
